Description:

Are  you looking for ways to support K-12 math students in accessing text in mathematics to engage as problem solvers?  Join us for part 1 of the ‘Reading in Math’ where we will explore the three reads routine connected to MN standards.  This routine is adapted from Stanford’s UL/SCALE Mathematical Language Routines and from Routines for Reasoning, by Grace Kelemanik, Amy Lucenta and Susan Janssen Creighton (pp. 128–149). 

The purpose of the routine is to ensure that students know what they are being asked to do, create opportunities for students to reflect on the ways mathematical questions are presented, and equip students with tools used to negotiate meaning. This routine supports reading comprehension, sense-making, and meta-awareness of mathematical language. It also supports negotiating information in a text with a partner in mathematical conversation.  Join us for a quick 1 hour webinar where you will experience the routine in the context of MN Math standards.

MDE is partnering with MCTM's Minnesota Math Leaders to host a ‘Reading in Math’ Webinar Series virtually on ZOOM.  We hope to record each webinar and post it to the MCTM YouTube channel within a week of each session.  Sessions are designed to be used at sites (PLCs or team meetings) and will come with a protocol for using the information shared in the webinar.

Part 2 in the ‘Reading in Math’ series will be on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025 from 4-5pm and part 3 pm March 26, 2025 from 4-5pm.
